This article describes the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL), which was created by the U.S. Department of Energy. The facility is unique because it houses over 100 cutting-edge research systems for the use of researchers all over the world. Access to the lab is requested through a peer-review proposal process.
