Brief Description of the Collaboratory :

ArcOD is an umbrella under which independently-funded Arctic projects related to marine biodiversity join together to:

Build a centralized database of species level distribution
Work towards completing a species inventory of the Arctic
Identify relations between species patterns and the environment
Look for changes in species and communities over time.

ArcOD approaches these goals by:

Providing infrastructure with a project office, a scientific steering group, and a network of collaborating researchers
Identifying and accumulating available species data
Fully analyzing samples that are already available
Providing opportunities for taxonomic training
Filling geographic, taxonomic and temporal gaps through new collections
Synthesizing existing information

Part of the Census of Marine Life collaboratory and the MarBOL collaboratory.
